HELP LINES DURING EMERGENCIES

  • An emergency is an unexpected and usually dangerous situation that calls for immediate action. Emergencies come when one least expects them. Many times, they break even strong willed people. Such situations can create panic if not properly handled. That is why many victims of emergency situations often do not know what to do at that point. They often become confused or upset.

However, the way you approach an emergency situation will either ameliorate or worsen its impact. The world is full of problems and it will be nice if one would have advance notification to prepare for such situations. Sadly, you never get to prepare for emergencies! While many organizations train people on how to reduce the likelihood of their happening and also to better manage them when they happen, it is difficult to completely prevent emergencies.

In Nigeria, the government has a dedicated toll free phone line for people to call and get help when they face emergency situations.  When facing emergency situation in Nigeria, dial 112 from any phone and you will get help. This is a dedicated toll free line for attending to emergencies.

There are also some things taught in the Holy Scriptures that can help you to manage an emergency situation better. These include:

    • Never doubt the love of God over you. His love to you is unconditional (Rom. 8:35-39).
    • Commit your ways to God. He knows how to get you out of that situation more than you do (Psalm 37:5).
    • Ask for God’s help and you will find it. His help is always available and timely (Matt. 7:7,8).
    • Learn to trust God and not to worry (Prov.3:5).
    • Seek help without delay from those who can help you (Gen.2:18).
    • Study the scripture and pray for strength to recover from the experience (Mark 14:38).

    Other helpful scriptures include

    • When you are confused read Ecclesiastes chapter three.
    • When you become critical of others read Corinthians chapter twelve.
    • When you need God’s peace, read Mathew chapter eleven, verse twenty-eight to thirty.
    • When your life is at stake, read John chapter three, verse one to twenty-one.
    • When you are stressed, read Mathew chapter six, verse twenty-five to thirty-four.
    • When you lack patience, read James chapter four, verse seven to eight
    • When you are afraid you can read Psalm one hundred and thirty-one.
    • When faced with trials, read James chapter one; verse twelve.
    • When you have lost a beloved one, you can find comfort in John chapter ten, verse nine to fourteen.
    • When you are lonely or tempted with money, read Hebrews chapter thirteen, verse five.

May the Lord grant you the required help in the time of your need in Jesus name.
